What other ways can I donate besides financially?
We have several ways you can donate!
- Donate your time: We are a volunteer-based nonprofit, and we understand that your time is valuable. We would love for you to participate in a Cape Factory where you can help bring the capes and sidekick teddy bears to life!
- Donate items: We have created a list of items we need for our Cape Factories. Check out our list of acceptable items here!
Why are the cape factories at a coffee shop?
Union Coffeehouse has supported us since our beginnings and is a vital piece to our organization! Plus, 4 hours of cutting, tracing, pinning, sewing, and making new friends pairs really well with a great caffeinated beverage...or two!
I have never sewn. Can I still volunteer?
Absolutely! There are many different parts to making a cape. Therefore, we can use people who know how to cut, trace, iron, and pin or who are interested in learning a new skill!
Can my children come to a Cape Factory?
We would love to have your children join us at our next cape factory! We highly encourage that children under the age of 10 have supervision at all times during a Cape Factory (preferably 1 adult per child). It's a great way to spend a Saturday and an opportunity for your children to develop new skills. We train individuals on how to use our equipment at each of our factories before they begin working at their designated station (sewing, cutting, pinning, ironing, etc). However, you know your children's capabilities and know what they can safely handle. So, we recommend you work with your children at their designated station.
We have trained nurses and a first aid kit on site at each of our Cape Factories and do our best to match children with their abilities. However, you as the parent know what your child's capabilities are best, and we recommend that children are supervised at all times during our events.

Where do I park once I arrive at Union?
You may park in the shared parking lot of Oak Lawn UMC and Union. If the parking lot is full, you may park in the blue spots of apartment parking garage across the street.
How can I purchase a Capes 4 Kids t-shirt?
You can check out our t-shirts at the front counter at Union! T-Shirts are $20.00 each and all of the proceeds go directly back into Capes 4 Kids! Sizes are limited.
Can I take some capes home to work on?
We partner with several sewing guilds and recommend attending one of our Cape Factories to learn our process and ask any questions you may have about our process first. If you still want some homework, we can work with you to find the best fit for you/your organization's skills.
How can I join the Delivery Team?
Our Delivery Team is made up of trained volunteers, and we are actively seeking ways to have more volunteers join us on our deliveries. All of our volunteers who participate in a cape delivery must be 18 years or older and must complete a background check and an online training on child abuse prevention before joining the team on a delivery.
Please note that most of our deliveries happen during the evenings or on weekends and we are often limited to how many people can attend each delivery. For more information on joining a delivery, please e-mail us at capes4kidsdfw@gmail.com!

Can I bring a group to the next Cape Factory?
We love when groups come to our Cape Factories! However, if your group is larger than 10 people, please contact us at capes4kidsdfw@gmail.com so that we can accommodate for your group size at our next Cape Factory!
Can Capes 4 Kids host an off-site Cape Factory for my group?
We would love to support your group's interest in Capes 4 Kids and would encourage those interested in hosting a satellite factory to consider fundraising for Capes 4 Kids or have your group attend one of our upcoming Cape Factories instead. Please fill out our contact form, and let us know how your group would like to partner with us in one of the ways mentioned above!
What if I know a child who needs a cape?
Child-sized superheroes have flooded the Dallas area, and we as standard humans can't know about them all without your help. We would love to hear about the superheroes in your life and hopefully outfit them with the cape they deserve! If you know of a child or group of children battling a villain, please contact us at capes4kidsdfw@gmail.com so we can try to set up a delivery.
Can I connect Capes 4 Kids to a hospital?
We'd love to connect with other hospitals through their Child Life Specialist team. Our e-mail address is: capes4kidsdfw@gmail.com, feel free to share our information with the Child Life Specialists in your life.
